“Steven Bogart's relatively small paintings are a highlight of the show. Oil and/or enamel on canvas, they feature dense, Pollock-esque tangles of paint, some of it marbleized. These are laid down over relatively flat, thinly painted areas. Typical of the work shown, three adjacently hung pieces share a palate: most prominently black, white, blue, cyan, pale pink and yellow. 2:49, the largest, stands in the middle. The lines are both fluid and strangely stiff.” – Arthur Whiteman (Big Red and Shiny, April 8, 2007)

“Stephen Bogart had a room full of fine canvases built around a spare version of the kind of looping and spotting that one sees in Pollock, although he lays down his strands of enamel in a manner that leaves behind a delightful marbling effect in the paint. They satfisfy both close and distant viewing, and convey an attitude of insouciant enjoyment. Terry Rose's works use an unusual array of pigments and varnishes to create spacious, Sinophile biomorphic abstractions, quiescent in tone and markedly beautiful.” - Franklin Einspruch (Artblog.net)

“…Bogart’s imagery convey’s the riveting sense of wonder, mystery and complexity experienced by both child and the philosopher in this talented artist.”  - Raymand Liddell Art New England Magazine August/September 2007
